Bohemians captain Dawson Devoy is suspended for the club's final two games, a major blow to their fading title hopes. The Football Association of Ireland confirmed the three-match ban for violent conduct after a post-match brawl following the Dublin derby earlier this month.
"The FAI confirmed that Dawson Devoy will be suspended for the final two games of the season," the governing body said. The incident occurred after Shamrock Rovers' 2-1 victory at Tallaght Stadium on October 12. Devoy was shown a straight red card for his part in the altercation, which also saw Shamrock Rovers midfielder Naj Razi and winger Danny Grant receive three and four-game bans respectively.
Assistant manager Stephen O’Donnell will also be absent from the sideline for the remaining fixtures, serving the final two games of his own suspension. Their recent form has been inconsistent, with two wins and two losses from their last four outings, including that defeat to Rovers. This sequence began with a 3-2 win over Galway United on September 11, followed by a 2-0 loss to Waterford on October 9, the 2-1 loss to Rovers, and a 2-1 victory over Waterford on October 16.
The team has scored 48 goals and conceded 39 this season. Alan Reynolds's side host Shelbourne at Dalymount Park this Friday before concluding their season away to St Patrick's Athletic on Saturday 30 October. Rovers could seal the title this weekend if they beat Sligo Rovers and Bohemians fail to win. The Gypsies' final match is a tough trip to Richmond Park, where they drew 1-1 in early September against a St Patrick's Athletic side currently fifth in the table. Top scorer Jonathan Clarke, with eight goals in 33 appearances this term, will need to lead the line in Devoy's absence as the club looks to end the season strongly. The club's remaining fixtures present a significant challenge without their captain and a key member of the coaching staff.
